PenMet Parks Unveils New Pavilion

PenMet Parks officials and community members gathered at Sehmel Homestead Park on Saturday for the grand opening of its new pavilion.

PenMet Parks celebrated the grand opening of its new pavilion at Β on Saturday.Β 

Local architect Jeanne Gagliano, who designed the 4,060 square-foot building, said the structure was inspired by the original barn that was owned by Don and Mary Ellen Sehmel.

PenMet Parks Executive Director Terry Lee said the $760,000 pavilion took four months to build. It includes a large room, two smaller rooms and restrooms.

During the ceremony, Lee thanked the PenMet board members, Gagliano, Dan Wojtala of AHBL and BCE Engineers for their dedication to complete the project on time and on budget.

He said the new facility will be rented out to the public for meetings, weddings and parties. By adding large carriage doors and heaters, Lee said it will be a year-round venue for the community.

"I live 2 miles from the park so it was like building the pavilion in my own backyard," Gagliano said. "I'm just happy it came out well, and I hope the community will enjoy it."
