With a Loving Eye: The Photographs of Jini Dellaccio

The 95-year-old photographer has documented the lives of many people and families over the 30 years she lived in Gig Harbor.

The exhibit “With a Loving Eye: The Photographs of Jini Dellaccio” opens at the Saturday, March 31. The exhibit features a remarkable collection of fashion, music, and portrait photography in stunning large format prints. Many of the images were selected by Dellaccio herself and most have never been shown publicly. The exhibit runs through July 29.

Dellaccio has been called “a genius of imagery” despite the fact her talent is not widely known. But if you were a fan of rock 'n' roll in the 1960s and 1970s you undoubtedly have seen her work; her timeless photographs of the Northwest rock scene have left a profound legacy. A significant number of these images were shot among the lush landscape of Dellaccio’s Gig Harbor home.

This exhibit is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the works of this Indiana farm girl whose life took an unexpected path that led to a fifty-year career as an accomplished photographer, creating some of the most memorable images of the Northwest’s seminal rock music scene.

Whether capturing images of fashion models, Fiji firewalkers, famous composers or infamous rock and rollers, Dellaccio’s portraits reliably reveal the dignity and compelling character of her subjects. Working within the conventions of the modernist Northwest School —with its tradition of Pacific Rim mysticism and reverence for nature—Dellaccio transcends the impassive technology of her chosen medium to convey an unparalleled connection with people, place, and period.

The exhibit is created in association with the Jini Dellaccio Collection (JDC), headquartered in Seattle, Washington. The JDC was founded in 2008 and is dedicated to restoring, preserving, and archiving Dellaccio’s photographic images. To learn more about the JDC, visit www.jinidellaccio.com.
