Gig Harbor Parks Commission Position Opening

The is looking for residents interested in serving on the Gig Harbor Parks Commission.  Persons interested in serving a three-year term should submit a letter of interest and application form by Wednesday, March 21, 2012 to the Mayor, Attn: Terri Reed, City of Gig Harbor, 3510 Grandview Street, Gig Harbor 98335.

Parks Commission members shall be appointed upon the basis of demonstrated interest, knowledge and support of parks.  The position is strictly voluntary and members selected shall serve a three-year term without salary or other compensation.  Commissioners will be selected from the Gig Harbor community at large and shall be a resident of Gig Harbor living in city limits at the time of appointment and throughout his/her time in office. 

The mission of the Gig Harbor Parks Commission is to preserve, protect and improve our parks and to foster appreciation for the parks’ many contributions to the quality of urban life and to promote increased public/private commitment to our historic system of parks and open spaces.

The purpose of the Parks Commission is to advise the Mayor and City Council on park and recreation facilities, open space acquisition and development, maintenance and operation of parks and recreation public facilities, operation of parks and recreation programs, and other matters as directed by the City Council.  The Commission meets on the first Wednesday of every other month and as needed at 5:30 p.m. at the Civic Center.
