Scholarships for Women Aspiring to Further Education
Gig Harbor/Peninsula School District Residents
Did you know that there are ten women in the Gig Harbor area currently attending college with the aid of the Minerva Scholarship Fund? Seriously – and they are all ages and come from unique circumstances. Beginning April 1 through June 30 we will be accepting applications through our website (minervagigharbor.org). The website includes a point of contact with a phone number to call if you have any questions.
Minerva is celebrating its’ 21th anniversary and we are eager to assist women that have had to forego college or trade school due to other pressing priorities in their lives. Yes, we want to encourage you to get back on track and pursue your educational goals.
Three members of the Gig Harbor American Association of University Women (AAUW) created the fund in 1991. Colonel Sybil Mercer an Army nurse and hospital administrator, Colonel Florence Casey, a Ph. D. economist, and Ruth Taylor, a local school librarian established the scholarship specifically to help other women in their career development.
Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula residents and many others have contributed generously to the Minerva Scholarship Fund for past 20 years. The fund has grown over the years allowing us to award scholarships from earnings, while leaving the capital in the fund undisturbed. We graciously accept donations from our neighbors in the community (see our website for more information).
If you currently live in the Gig Harbor/Peninsula School District for at least one year, please take the first step to fund (and fuel) your career dreams.
Please visit our website at minervagigharbor.org for the application and additional information. We are also on Facebook – Minerva Gig Harbor. Check us out!
