SATURDAY: Chalk the Harbor Returns to Gig Harbor

Chalk the Harbor will take place on Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. along the downtown waterfront sidewalks.

The following press release was issued by Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance.

Families, organizations and artists of all ages are invited to participate in this year’s annual Chalk the Harbor event, hosted by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance and sponsored by Peninsula Light Company and Puget Sound Energy.  

Chalk the Harbor will take place on Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. along the downtown waterfront sidewalks.

Artists are encouraged to create art with a Maritime Theme depicting images of the harbor, its fishing heritage, or any creative nautical or maritime illustration.

Free chalk is provided by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance, who will also offer certificates of award for best chalk art in the following categories:

  • 6 years & under
  • 7 – 10 year olds
  • 11-13 year olds
  • High School/ College Students
  • Adult
  • Families/Organizations
  • Maritime/Nautical theme

Registration takes place on the day of the event from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at two downtown locations: Anthony’s parking lot in the Finholm District and at the Pioneer/Harborview intersection near the Gig Harbor Fly Shop.

Face Painting by Christina will once again be located in front of Mostly Books, and five professional artists will be chalking in designated areas along the waterfront.  Be sure to look for their amazing artwork!

Participants and spectators are encouraged to visit the Peninsula Art League’s annual Summer Arts Festival taking place on Judson Street on both Saturday and Sunday. 

Around the Sound Transit will offer courtesy shuttle bus service between the Summer Arts Festival and  the Finholm District, or ride the new summer trolley between downtown and Finholm.
