Coming Tuesday: Gig Harbor Trolley Service Begins

Pierce Transit's Get Around The Harbor! trolley service runs through Sept. 28, connecting the city's waterfront with the Uptown shopping district.

Trolleys, hills and sunshine. Only one city in the world has those things, right?

While San Francisco is a good guess, local officials hope people will associate those things with the Maritime City, not the one by the bay.

On Tuesday, Pierce Transit will begin Get Around The Harbor! - a trolley service that will connect the city's historic downtown to the Uptown shopping district.

The service - a demonstration project that will help the transit agency decide whether it should be permanent - runs daily through Sept. 28. It will start at 11 a.m., and run to 7:30 p.m., or 9:30 p.m., depending on the day of the week.

For 25 cents - that's right, a quarter - adults can ride between Harborview Drive at Peacock Hill and Point Fosdick at 45th, with a stop at the Kimball Drive park-and-ride.

Children and seniors can ride free, as can disabled riders with a valid Regional Reduced Fare Permit.

Doggy owners will love this - leashed dogs are allowed (only requirement is owners pick up after their pooches if it has an accident)

Bicyclists are also welcomed if the trolley isn't too crowded. They won't have bike racks, and owners will have to hold them throughout the trip.

So we ask you, Gig Harbor Patch users, are you excited about the Get Around Gig Harbor! trolley? Will you use it? Tell us in the comments below.
