Donate Food and Supplies to Soldiers Returning Home From Afghanistan

Help welcome home the soldiers with the 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade by supplying "welcome home bags".

The soldiers with the 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade Joint Base Lewis-McChord return home from Afghanistan in the next 60 days, and the City of Gig Harbor is asking the community to help welcome them home.

According to GigHarborGuide.com, 243 soldiers of the brigade do not have family in the area and will go to the barracks when they come back.

To show our appreciation for the men and women serving our country, the City of Gig Harbor is asking local residents to help supply "welcome home bags", which will be placed on the soldiers' beds.

Items Needed:

  • Travel size soap/shampoo
  • Razors/shave cream
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Snacks: Candy/nuts, cookies/granola bars/crackers, bottled water/beverages

Deliver donations to the Gig Harbor Visitors Information Center at 3125 Judson St. For more information, contact Diane Hunter at 253-851-3320.

The 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade is a Community Connector Partner with the Gig Harbor community.

One reader emailed us this suggestion: why don't you have welcome home bags made up by some of the grocery stores(like the xmas and thanksgiving bags) and we can purchase them already made up and then deliver them to the volunteer center. I think that would be a great way to go.
