From Doors To Gigs: Wood With A Story

Employees of the Real Carriage Door Company got a unique glimpse into the history of Gig Harbor Aug. 9.

To build good doors, it takes a solid team effort. So does rowing a longboat.

The workers from Real Carriage Door Company get to do both - and they rowed a boat just like the original gig boat from the Wilkes expedition that led to the discovery of the harbor.

As part of the Gig Harbor Boatshop's Longboat Program, 14 employees rowed out into Puget Sound, with the sun shining brightly on them.

"A lot of corporations do team building in small, air conditioned rooms," RCDC owner Don Rees said. "This is a great reward for our guys."

Rees is also on the board of directors for the boatshop and is a generous donor, according to Susanne Regan, assistant director.

See photos from the trip in our gallery, and hear more from Rees and Regan in the video, plus reactions from an RCDC worker.
