Gig Harbor's Holiday Tree Lighting Set for Dec. 1

Join Santa Claus and a live reindeer at the annual holiday tree lighting event at Skansie Brothers Park in Gig Harbor.

The annual lighting of the Gig Harbor tree will take place on Saturday Dec. 1 at Skansie Brothers Park. The annual event starts with live music by Rokkerbox at 5 p.m. and includes a live reindeer as well as a visit from Rhubarb, the Tacoma Rainiers mascot reindeer.

Thanks to sponsor CenturyLink, Santa hats will be handed out to all the kids, and the Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association will provide free coffee, hot chocolate and cookies.

At 5:30 p.m. Santa will arrive via the Gig Harbor Fire Department ladder truck and, together with Mayor Chuck Hunter, will light the tree. This year’s holiday tree is donated once again by Joint Base Lewis-McChord and will stand 45 feet tall.

The City of Gig Harbor Public Works Department will be transporting the tree to Gig Harbor on Monday, Nov. 19, and will be decorating the tree and the entire harbor in time for the Dec. 1 festivities.

Santa will be available at the park following the tree lighting to meet with each child regarding their holiday wishes.
