Harbor Movie Fans Get Down at Film Festival Oscar Party
Local film buffs turned out for a red-carpet Oscar event Gig Harbor-style. They came dressed up and glitzed out to attend the Gig Harbor Film Festival's Oscar night party and see the winners revealed on the big screen at the Galaxy Theater.

It was the second time that the hosted its invitation-only "Night at the Oscars" party as a way to say thank-you to contributors and supporters, said GHFF Executive Director Marty Thacker.
"Without you, we wouldn't be here," she told those in attendance. Nearly 100 invitees RSVP'd for the Oscar-viewing affair this year.

Thacker set the light-hearted, festive mood for the evening by attending in full "Black Swan" theatrical makeup. Others also came decked out in their own versions of Hollywood awards fashion, wearing everything from tuxes, to cocktail dresses to glitzy jewelry and flouncy hats.
One whimsical guest made his own statement in garb reminiscent of Pemco's "sandals and socks guy."

"For this kind of event, you have to show a combination of respect and fun," Craig Schweikart said of his half tux, half shorts and sandals get-up.
The guests began arriving at 4 p.m. to mingle, drink wine and nosh on food from the appetizer buffet. The pre-Oscars festivities included a short auction that raised $2,500 in support of the Gig Harbor Film Festival, which is scheduled this year for Oct. 14-16.
Posters of this year's Best Picture nominees also were raffled off during the program's commercial breaks.
