Local Girl Scouts Visit Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club for Archery Lesson

Troop 40999 of Gig Harbor recently learned how to become expert archers at the Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club.

A local Brownie/Junior Troop recently put their archery skills to the test at the Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club, according to Troop Leader Dodi Skiffington.

Under the direction of archery chairman Thom Halligan, ten junior members of Troop 40999 spent about an hour at the facility on Sept. 24.

The girls, ages 9 and 10, paired up and learned how to shoot at targets, which were set 11 yards away.

“The girls were the best archers. They were wonderful,” said Halligan, who donated his time and the facility for the event.

He said he holds similar events to local groups as a way to introduce archery to the community.

“This was such a fun event for the girls,” said Skiffington. “In Girl Scouts, the girls have to be juniors to do archery, and they have been waiting to do this.”

The archery range is available to the public Wednesday, noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $2 for members and $5 for non-members.
