Henderson Bay Fireworks Committee (Gig Harbor)

Why here: Enjoy local fireworks display by heading over to the Purdy Spit at 10 p.m on Monday, July 4. After missing last year due to lack of funds, the Henderson Bay Fireworks Committee has put together a 20-minute show that's expected to be "bigger and better" than before, according to Jane Treleven, whose husband Larry serves on the committee. She said the community has raised about $27,000 so far, but they're still $7,000 short. "At this point, we're accepting any donations that we can get," said Treleven. If you'd like to donate to the Henderson Bay Fireworks Committee, send donations to 11222 70th Ave. NW, Gig Harbor, WA 98332.

Destiny Harbor Tours: Fourth of July (Gig Harbor)

Why here: Want to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend by sea? Then check out Gig Harbor-based Destiny Harbor Tours for its 2011 Fourth of July cruise. Departing from Gig Harbor, there are two sea tours available. During the day, the cruise takes you right into the action of Tacoma's Freedom Fair air show. During the evening, take a cruise to see the Freedom Fair's amazing fireworks display. See the link above for costs, times and contact information.

Tacoma Freedom Fair (Tacoma)

Why here: This historic and spectacular fair (going 30 years strong) is a big one. This year's theme marks the celebration of the centennial of naval aviation. Come join the fun along Tacoma's Ruston Way and experience the amazing (and breathtaking!) air show, great food, vendors, rides and family activities all day long. The crowning jewel of Freedom Fair? The extraordinary fireworks display in the evening over Puget Sound. Click on the link above to get all the information you need and to see other activities in town that lead up to the Fourth.

Steilacoom Fourth of July (Steilacoom)

Why here: The town of Steilacoom provides Fourth of July plenty of fun from morning 'til night. Start your day with a four mile fun run and walk and kid's one mile fun run at beginning at town hall. After the race, the street fair opens on Lafayette Street. The street fair features a beer garden, access to the Historical and Tribal museums, an ice cream social, entertainment, car show and parade! And if that weren't enough, there's going to be an evening family street dance party followed by a great fireworks display over the Sound!

Special note: Did you know that the Steilacoom fireworks display is entirely funded by donations? If you wish to contribute, please click on the link above for more information. Additionally, special patriotic T-shirts are available for purchase. All proceeds go to the fireworks. T-shirts will be for sale on July Fourth during the street fair.

Military Aviation Night at Cheney Stadium (Tacoma)

Why here: Okay, so this event is technically Friday, July 1st. However, it's Military Aviation Night at the ball park. There will be family fun, activities and a chance to salute our military personnel. And hey, what's more American than a great baseball game? Cheer on your Tacoma Rainiers take on the Fresno Grizzlies at the brand spankin' new Cheney Stadium, and post-game, take in the fantastic fireworks display right over the ball park!

Happy Birthday, America! Have a safe and happy Fourth of July, Patch readers!
