Patch Picks: Haunted Houses

With Halloween a couple weeks away, Patch contributor Kim Thompson questions whether the South Sound is haunted? Based on her list of local haunted houses, it just may be.

The haunted house scenario is a Halloween staple.

Pierce County haunted houses are gearing up to thrill and scare us in honor of the big holiday (and in some cases, use Halloween fun to do good for our communities).

Do you dare visit a haunted house? Do you have nerves of steel and laugh in the face of fear? Or are you getting goosebumps just thinking about it?

Well, Patch is in the spirit! Check out the short video above for some creepy music and cool haunted house scenes.

But now, are you ready to get spooked and check out some local haunts? Here are my picks.

Muhahahahaha. (That's my evil laugh)

Theatrical Nightmare Presents: A Walk in the Dark At Shoreline Park (Joint Base Lewis-McChord)

Why here: Are you ready for some interactive horror theater? Then be prepared for a wild ride of fright at this local haunt. This thriller has been around since 1990 and continues to scare. Note: for the younger set, there is a not so scary walk designed just for them. Admission fees based on age and which program you decide to experience (see the website for all of the details).

When: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Oct. 28- 29, 31. The no-so-scary walk runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Oct. 29.

Hellmouth 4: Resurrection (Lakewood)

Why here: This haunted house has been around for awhile and it's seriously spooky business. While there is no admission fee, they are collecting canned food donations for Northwest Harvest (and if you loved your scary experience, donations for the haunted house are gladly accepted). Check out the link for more information.

When: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Oct. 29; 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Oct. 31.

Kistap Haunted Fairgrounds (Bremerton)

Why here: Imagine an entire fairgrounds area that is haunted. Better yet? You can choose your experience (lights on or lights off!) and the fun doesn't end on Halloween night. You can continue your frightening good times into November! The link above to their website is loaded with terrific gems: scary videos from last year, cool features, and the back story of this haunt (plus all the important details like admission fees, days, hours, and directions).

When: Oct. 21-22, 28-29, 31, Nov. 4 (see website for hours and prices)

The Black Lake Asylum (Tacoma)

Why here:Β  Tacoma's Freighthouse Square plays host to the creepy Black Lake Asylum haunted attraction. With special guests like the Lady Cadavers and Dr. Dementia, you never know what will happen! This spooky haunt is critically acclaimed. Please see the website for details on admission prices and hours.
