THURSDAY: What's Open and Closed

Due to the winter storm on Wednesday, find out what's open and closed for Thursday, Jan. 19.

City of Gig Harbor:

The and the are operating with limited staff today. The Gig Harbor Civic Center will close at 3:30 p.m. today due to inclement weather conditions.

Pierce County:

Pierce County government will be closed. Pierce County Superior Court, District Court and Juvenile Court, as well as Tacoma Municipal Court are canceled today. Jurors do not need to report in.

Gig Harbor Police Department:

The is open and operation ready for any 911 emergencies in its response area.

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One:

is fully staffed and operation ready for any 911 emergencies in its response area.

The fire department released the following announcement:

Please remember to only drive if you absolutely have to. If you must drive, pack extra clothing and food in case you are stranded. In the event of a power outage, do not use generators or any fueled burning appliances in your home as they produce carbon monoxide and can cause poisoning and death. In addition, only use flashlights as a light source.

If you are driving, make sure to check the road conditions with the WSDOT traffic cameras.


All school activities, building use and athletic events are canceled. There will also be no out of district transportation.

Tacoma Community College:

is closed. Day and evening classes are canceled at all TCC locations, including the Gig Harbor campus.

Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce:

The office will be closed.

Harbor History Museum:

The will be closed.

Gig Harbor Family YMCA:

The is operating on modified hours 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. All programs and classes are cancelled. 

The Women's Center at Point Fosdick will open at 10 a.m. Point Fosdick Child Watch will open at 1 p.m. depending on staff availability.

Pierce County Library System:

Pierce County Library System plans to open at 1 p.m.

People may access the Library’s online library at www.piercecountylibrary.org and download audiobooks and e-books, as well as songs, for free with Pierce County Library cards.
