Volunteers Wanted for Downtown Flower Basket Program

The Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association is seeking volunteers to help maintain the flower baskets in downtown Gig Harbor this summer.

Gig Harbor is looking for a few good green thumbs! The Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association is seeking volunteers to help support this summer’s downtown flower basket program.

The flower baskets are ordered and will be delivered in late May. Daily watering will begin as soon as the baskets are hung by the City of Gig Harbor's Public Works Department. Watering route and equipment orientation and training will take place in May.

What does it take to be a volunteer for this program?

  • Filling out a volunteer form that will be submitted to the City of Gig Harbor Park’s Department
  • Training on the watering truck and watering process
  • Committing to a specific time that you will be responsible for watering (once a week, once a month, etc.)
  • A desire to do something for your community.

This volunteer effort supports GHWWA’s mission of preserving and enhancing the character of the waterfront district. For the last four summers the GHHWA has purchased and maintained the beautiful hanging baskets that grace our downtown waterfront from May through September. The program involves purchasing the baskets and recruiting, training and managing the daily watering crews. Our volunteer crew has included local property owners, business people, elected officials and private citizens.

Daily watering of the 75 baskets takes about 3 hours and begins at 5 a.m. (before the traffic starts rolling and the parking spots are filled). Volunteers work in pairs (one to drive and one to water) and they get to enjoy the experience of watching our beautiful harbor wake up during their shift.

All volunteer activities will be coordinated by the GHHWA with the City providing the watering equipment. This is a great example of a collaborative partnership among the City, the GHHWA, local residents and businesses. Volunteers and contributors will be recognized in our newsletter, press releases, by the city, and an end of season party!

If you are interested in becoming a member of the GHHWA watering crew or would like to donate toward the purchase of the baskets, please contact the office at 253-514-0071 or info@ghhwa.org

Thank you, Akiko! Just wondering if there was some other reason for it that I didn't see. :)

No problem. Welcome Brent. By the way, I'm a graphic artist, have any need for ad design?
