Chalk the Walk Returns With A New Name

Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association continues the tradition under a new name: Chalk the Harbor.

The popular summertime event for families and kids of all ages is returning to Gig Harbor on Saturday, July 21. This year, '' will be have a new name: Chalk the Harbor.

In keeping with Gig Harbor’s history as a Maritime City, the (GHHWA) has changed the name and will be encouraging all chalk artists to create art that depicts images of the harbor, its fishing heritage or any creative maritime or nautical theme, said Executive Director Mary DesMarais.

The GHHWA provides all the necessary chalk for free and offers award certificates for best chalk art in the following categories:

  • Adult
  • Maritime/Nautical theme

Registration takes place on the day of the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at two downtown locations, parking lot in the Finholm District and the Pioneer/Harborview intersection near the .  The event continues until 3 p.m. 

Participants and spectators are also encouraged to visit the Peninsula Art League’s annual Summer Arts Festival taking place on Judson Street on both Saturday and Sunday.

Around the Sound Transit will offer courtesy shuttle bus service between the Summer Arts Festival and the Sidewalk Districts.
