In celebration of Earth Day and in partnership with Sound Experience and local history and wildlife preservation groups, the City of Gig Harbor presents “Earth Heritage Day: Restore, Reuse, Renew” on Friday April 22nd from 10AM – 5PM at Skansie Brothers Park and Jerisich Dock (3207 Harborview Drive) in historic downtown Gig Harbor.

Headliner for this event is the visit of the historic schooner “Adventuress”.  She will arrive in Gig Harbor on Thursday evening April 21st and be open for free public tours from 10AM-5PM on Friday April 22nd.   The 133-foot vessel, the “Adventuress” is owned and operated by the non-profit organizations Sound Experience (www.soundexp.org) and instills environmental stewardship while sailing with young people and adults through Puget Sound and San Juan Islands.  During her visit to Gig Harbor the “Adventuress” and her crew will offer dockside education programming, answer questions and help educate visitors of all ages about the local coastal environment, as well as the nearly century-old schooner “Adventuress”.

During this day-long celebration the public is welcome to tour the historic Skansie Netshed (built in 1910) located at Skansie Brothers Park (3207 Harborview Drive).  The netshed will host Harbor WildWatch (www.harborwildwatch.org) presenting ‘Ocean Soup” (Noon – 1PM) and “Critters” (1PM to 5PM).  In addition there will be hands-on-art “Fish Painting” sponsored by Pierce Conservation District (www.piercecountycd.org)  (Noon-4PM).

 at the historic Eddon Boat Building (1946) will offer free tours all day and kick-off with a “Morning Coffee” from 8AM-10AM (www.gigharborboatshop.com)  

The beautiful new Harbor History Museum (4121 Harborview Drive) will be open through-out the day with special programming (www.harborhistorymuseum.org). Museum entrance fees $6 adults, $5 seniors, $4 children 7-17 and 6 an under free.  Maps will be available to guide visitors to all events around the walk-able harbor area.
