Master storyteller presents "Wagons West!"

Imagine taking a six-month trip with your family in a wagon the size of a small car. That’s what it was like to travel on the Oregon Trail. Join a “wagon train through time” as you sing the songs and hear the stories of the pioneers and the people they met along the way. Wagon Master and master storyteller Karen Haas will be taking us on this “trip” on Saturday, February 25 at 1:00 pm at the Harbor History Museum, 4121 Harborview Drive, Gig Harbor, Washington.

“We are excited to have Karen perform here. Her enthusiasm is contagious and her knowledge of the subject matter will provide wonderful information for an audience of all ages,” said Vicki Blackwell, museum curator. Karen will be in proper period attire and will be bringing historic objects that complement the story.

The Saturday program will also provide the opportunity for children and adults to “experience history” by riding in a mini-stagecoach pulled by specially raised goats. The coach rides will be available from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, and from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. There will also be on-site a full-sized stagecoach that visitors can climb aboard for photo opportunities.

“Not many people can say they’ve ridden in a period-correct stagecoach, and definitely not one that is pulled by goats,” said Alyssa Taylor, museum marketing manager. “This will be a ride to remember.”

The Saturday program is funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
