will celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, Sept. 26, according to the company spokeswoman Erin Kelbe.
The department store is launching 12 new stores this fall, including the location in Gig Harbor. With the opening of this store, Kohl’s creates approximately 125 local jobs and approximately 1,500 jobs nationwide, Kelbe said. The Gig Harbor store, located next to Safeway, is the 18th store to open in Washington.
“As Kohl’s celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, we are excited to open the doors to the new Gig Harbor location. Kohl’s offers everything customers need for themselves, their families and their homes in one place, helping shoppers find the best values on stylish brands while staying within their budgets,” said Michael Whatley, district manager for the new Kohl’s location.

Some of the new features at the store includes updated check-out stations, newly designed shopping carts and strollers, upgraded fitting rooms and Wi-Fi throughout the store.
In addition, the Gig Harbor store was built according to a prototype that received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at the Gold level from the U.S. Green Building Council. This includes recycled and regionally sourced building materials; water-efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures; improved indoor air quality through increased fresh air ventilation and use of an ENERGY STAR-rated roof.
