VIEWFINDER: Halloween in the Harbor

Thousands of kids and adults came out to trick-or-treat in downtown Gig Harbor Monday as local merchants and organization passed out plenty of sugar-filled treats.

(GHHWA) hosted the annual Monday afternoon drawing thousands of kids and adults dressed in their Halloween costumes.

As a way to provide a safe place for kids to collect sugary sweets, business owners in the historic downtown area pass out treats to local kids each year.

According to GHHWA Executive Director Mary DesMarais, the merchants spend about an average of $300 on candy each year.

"Nobody shops on Halloween," she said. "One can hope that they come down and realize, 'Wow this is a great community. Let's give back to the community that's giving to us.' That's the goal."
