National Main Street Center Programs to Visit Downtown Gig Harbor

The National Main Street Center and Washington State Main Street Program will be evaluating the downtown commercial district's issues and opportunities for the revitalization of Gig Harbor's historic waterfront district.

The National Main Street Center and the Washington State Main Street Program are teaming up to conduct a Resource Team visit in Gig Harbor today and tomorrow. The Team will be evaluating the downtown commercial district’s issues and opportunities and will recommend short-term and long-term strategies for the revitalization of Gig Harbor’s historic waterfront district.

The Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association (GHHWA) has been working on downtown revitalization through the Washington Main Street Program for over three years. Gig Harbor was designated a Washington Main Street Community in May of 2011 along with Prosser, WA. The Resource Team visit is a valuable benefit of this designation.

“We are looking forward to gaining an outside perspective from veteran downtown professionals, and hearing their recommendations for GHHWA as we move forward,” said Mary DesMarais, Executive Director of the GHHWA.

The resource team will be meeting with the GHHWA’s board of directors, four committees (promotion, economic development, design, and organization), and key stakeholders of the community including downtown business and property owners, city officials, and realtors and developers.

After the visit, the team will develop recommendations for the GHHWA based on their observations. There will be an open-to-the-pubic presentation on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. that will outline the team’s initial findings.
