Original post on Dec. 30, 2012

The owner of Red Rooster Cafe, Jamie Radcliffe, announced on Friday, Dec. 28, that the waterfront restaurant in downtown Gig Harbor closed after her lease was revoked.

In the summer of 2011, the .

The cafe's landlords Stanley and Judith Stearns proposed the ordinance change after the restaurant was struggling under the limitations.

Radcliffe broke the news on Red Rooster Cafe's Facebook page:

My lease was revoked today. This was unexpected and I am truly sad for this loss. I put every ounce of my heart and soul into building the RR, but apparently God has another plan for me.

I have been informed that the building owner has arranged for someone else to re-open the restaurant within the next few months as the new owner.

I have not been informed who the new owner will be or exactly when the RR will re-open, but I would imagine that they will still take any gift certificates you may have recently purchased.

I hope with all of my heart that when the Red Rooster opens back up and that all of my wonderful regular customers and facebook friends will continue to love the RR.

Thank you all sincerely for spending the past 2.5 years with me! I am going to miss so many of you so much!!

We are officially closed.

Patch will have more information as it becomes available.

I understand having a tenant leave if there is breach of contract or unpaid rent. But demanding the restaurant owner to sign over all of her rights to the name of the restaurant, the furniture, the menu, etc. is the unethical part of Stan's business doings. I think that is what people are up in arms about.
Gig Harbor Neighbor January 04, 2013 at 07:24 PM
It's not unethical if he has invested more money than she has, and so far Jamie hasn't answered that question. If she owes him a large amount of money, than the general idea of signing over rights is that she is unable to start another business until she pays back the money that is owed. None of us are privy to the contract, we are only getting partial information from Radcliffe. But anyone with common sense can see that the reason this has happened is because she is in debt, and she's creating this smoke screen because she's desperate.
Karen January 04, 2013 at 08:46 PM
Stacey, what exactly did Me. Stearns do that is "unethical in his business dealings? Because that is quite a strong (and libelous ) accusation to make. Do you have solid proof that Mr. Stearns acted unethically? Do you have evidence? Or is this all from the GH rumor mill? And to describe Chris Brown as being "pretentious and stuck-up", well, I suggest you get a dictionary because his comments were neither of those things. To call someone unethical by just throwing it out there is quite irresponsible and I am sure you would not want the same to be said of you... especially if it wasn't true. It appears as though you have been listening (quite closely) to one side of this story. As my Aunt Mary Alice says, "There are three sides to every story: his side, her side, and the right side." I believe if you are open- minded and let this play out, you may be surprised to learn what an ethical, hard-working, and concerned and involved citizen Mr. Stearns (and his whole family , for that matter) is in Gig Harbor. (You might want to look up 'libelous' in that dictionary as well.)
Little Miss Sunshine! :) January 04, 2013 at 09:35 PM
Relax..your feelings are obviously biased, as well. As far as I know, he has no rights to the RR name, etc. and demanding for it is inappropriate. (is that a better word for you?) I didn't describe Chris as pretentious...I called a majority of the people in GH that. The Rich protecting the Rich. Who has power? Let's bow down to them.... When there is only one side of the story being told, it is pretty hard to listen to the other side. If Mr. Stearns had the legal rights to the RR name and all of the belongings, then someone speak up! I am commenting on a business man. Not the family man or neighbor he may be. They are typically 2 very different people in this world. How you act with the communithy and your family is often times very different then how someone acts behind closed doors in business decisions. I hope to find out that I was wrong. I'll patiently wait. Until then...I am done. Everyone is taking sides. Even you are doing so. So, on that note, we might as well be speaking Politics and Religion. No one is going to come out of this happy. Don't bother to respond. It is the same old, same old at this point. I am exhausted in hearing it. Happy New Year!

It is quite a stretch to accuse the majority of the town of Gig Harbor of being pretentious. These types of names are what cause such polarization. Your comment alienates a town now, not just a person or a family. It is likely now that there are sides, the town of Gig Harbor on one side, and Stacey on the other.

It's appears as though Radcliffe is now accusing the Stearns family of hacking into her Facebook account, rather than coming to the obvious conclusion that it, and her posts, had been flagged for abuse. Her claim that Mac support can varify this claim is absurd. If, in fact, they can see the activity as it's happening, this could just as easily be explained if her posts were being flagged for abuse. These are mighty bold accusations she making, I hope she understands the ramifications of such accusations. She sure has damaged the reputation and livelihood of a good man.
Little Miss Sunshine! :) January 05, 2013 at 05:52 PM
Please...Brenda appears to be trying to stir the pot a little more!! Radcliffe never accused anyone in particular of hacking in to her facebook page...only that it happened. If you want to make assumptions that she thinks it is the Stearn family, so be it...but to spread it as a truth is absurd. You are making "mighty bold accusations" as well, miss Brenda. Have a great Saturday all of you angry folks! Being this angry all the time can't be good for you and your community. Move on. Let the Lawyer's deal with this. Smile. It feels good. Try it out sometime! :) Signing out! Peace!

Little Miss Sunshine, when she says "it pretty obvious who did it" after already accusing them of a quite a few other things, she is, in fact, pointing the finger at them. You don't have to name someone in an accusation, you simply have to create an impression. If this were to go to court, she would certainly be found as having accused them.
Brenda F. January 05, 2013 at 06:17 PM
Oh, and I assure you, Radcliffe already stirred the pot, when most the responses to her claim about the hacking on both the RR page and her personal page claim that "they know who did it." Happy Saturday Sunshine!
Little Miss Sunshine! :) January 05, 2013 at 06:33 PM
Life is way too short for all this anger. Move on. :)
Jamie Radcliffe January 05, 2013 at 07:02 PM
I myself have absolutely no idea how to hack into a computer, My dad who has his PHD, I'm certain has no idea how to hack into a computer, and honestly I would imagine that the Stearns have no idea how to hack into a computer. That being said, I was not implying in any way that Stan was doing so. My Facebook/computer was hacked into.... It was not just comments being flagged. This activity was confirmed by an apple support tech as well as a representative from Facebook. I am turning off Patch notifications as I am truly exhausted from this and do not wish to read any more of this nonsense. I agree.... Life is way too short.

I'm confused as to why Little Miss Sunshine keeps telling people to move on and let go of anger. I don't personally know any of the parties involved (though I do know of their reputations), I'm simply stating my opinion. This is a case which should have been left to the lawyers, as she pointed out, but when Radcliffe continued to post statements about this matter it opened the door for public opinion. So far, this is what I've gathered from her statements: The owner, to whom she owes no money, kicked her out of the space, of which she owes no rent, without any prior notice. She claims that the owners are stealing her intellectual property. She's accusing the daughters and employees of harassment and bullying. She accused the owners of blackmail. And now, finally, when she said it was "pretty obvious who did it," I believed she was again, accusing them of hacking her account. As many have pointed out, this is a highly unbelievable story, as the owners she's referring to has a reputation that is the exact opposite of these accusations. Again. I'm not quite sure why Little Miss Sunshine would think I'm angry, I'm just another person stating my opinion.
Little Miss Sunshine! :) January 05, 2013 at 07:38 PM
Are you telling me you are in a good mood? :)
Brenda F. January 05, 2013 at 07:39 PM
Jamie, if you weren't referring to someone from the Stearns family (Stan, his daughters, or an employee), then why did you state that "it was pretty clear who did it?" It's too bad that you've turned off your notifications, because I'd really like to know the answer to this. If you didn't want people to think that, you shouldn't have made such a statement, and you shouldn't have allowed others to make comments like that on your pages. Who were you referring to with this statement?

I am saddened to see such a polarization occurring over the misfortune of a small business owner. There is an important point to consider here: I personally have no idea how much money might be owed to Mr. Stearn, but that is irrelevant anyway related to the apparent demand that Ms. Radcliffe turn over the long list items that were requested. The only way a single one of those items can be expected to be left behind in lieu of re-payment of any debt is if those items were specifically agreed upon by both parties to be collateral for any specific amount owed. If such a contract existed, it seems logical that Mr. Moist would have simply referred to it in the first place....so far, he has not. Is it possible that this whole mess really is "strictly business"? Quite possibly. Business decisions can often be perceived as cold and harsh, It would certainly be hoped that even if such "strictly business" decisions had to be made, they could have been done so with more gentleness, honesty, and most assuredly more forenotice. I have been a guest at the Red Rooster and have always enjoyed the experience. I will be sad to see it no longer in operation. I wish Jamie Radcliffe all the best as she seeks out the next step along her life's journey.

It is very saddening thing that something which started with so much hope and dreams has come to this. I was moved to write on it here on the patch. Hopefully both parties can move forward and put this in the past. You can read my thoughts on the matter if you wish. It is called Dreams Interrupted and be found in the blog section.

There is no way I'm sifting through this entire thread. But I have a sneaking suspicion that our dear friend Little Miss Sunshine! :) is the alias of Ms Radcliffe.
Little Miss Sunshine! :) January 16, 2013 at 04:57 PM
Why? Because I am defending her and/or playing devil's advocate? No. I am not Jamie. My name is Stacey. I changed my name on the thread because people were getting so angry and I wanted people to lighten up.
Michele Reamey January 16, 2013 at 06:32 PM
Can we all just stop? This is not healthy or helpful. We are a community, tearing each other down does not lift anyone else up. A business closed. It was a loss to those who enjoyed it and those who poured their hearts into it. Let them have that. Let them mourn without the need to attack. And to those that are grieving, find peace in this time of change and do not strike out in your loss. Stand in the storm and wait for the way to be cleared. All of you are so much more than this. No one really wants to cause this kind of distress to themselves and others. Acknowledge the passing and move on. Let us not have a war, no one will win.

Actually, anything I post on here is done so with my actual name, not an alias. - Jamie Radcliffe

I, for one, will be happy to try the new restaurant: whether they keep the name or not. Maybe I will get served instead of sitting for 25 minutes waiting for a waiter or waitress to even notice that I exist and then finally walking out with not so much as a good-bye. It can't get worse than that.
