Patch has the latest "scoop" on some great places to get this perfect summery dessert. Dig in!

That looks like ... yes, it is.

The sun! Summer's here. Time to break out the cones and indulge in sweet, rich, succulent ice cream.

Smooth, cool, creamy, sugary, sweet, and yummy ice cream. This dessert just screams summer. Sugar cones, waffle cones, sundaes, milkshakes, ice cream and brownies, ice cream sandwiches....

To celebrate the first couple of days of summer, Patch recommends some nearby spots where you can nosh on great ice cream. We'll cover the classics as well as some new treats to try.

Baskin-Robbins(Gig Harbor, University Place, Lakewood, Tacoma)

Why here:  is the ultimate classic ice cream joint. With it's traditional 31 flavors (and so much more), you will find something delicious. Dairy Queen (Gig Harbor, University Place, Tacoma)

Why here: is another classic for ice cream confections and wild mixes of sweet treats. The candy mash up of the famous Blizzard desserts, Dilly Bars and dipped ice cream cones helps you find sweet-tooth nirvana. You can grab burgers and other food fare to go with your treats, too!

 

Cold Stone Creamery (Lakewood, Tacoma)

Why here: Be your own ice cream treat mixologist at this joint that's grown in popularity across the county. Choose your ice cream and toppings of your choice and watch it get expertly mixed on a frozen granite slab right in front of your eyes. Can't decide? Cold Stone has a menu of different combinations that you can try to take the guess work out of it. There are drinks, cakes, and other novelties available as well.

 

Ben & Jerry's (Gig Harbor)

Why here: is fabulous homemade ice cream made with a heart and a mission. Chuckle at the cleverly named delicious varities, everything from ice cream, cakes, frozen yogurt or smoothies, are mouth watering goodness. The company boasts a strong history of environmental and social activism, too.

 

Metropolitan Market (Tacoma)

Why here: Gelato anyone? This frozen Italian take on ice cream is delicious. Metropolitan Market, in Tacoma's Proctor District, serves up a great gelato in its coffee shop area. Select from many yummy flavors and have a taste treat that puts a spin on traditional ice cream.
