THIS WEEKEND: Arbor Day, Star Search and More

Events in the Gig Harbor area this weekend.

Where/When: on Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m.

What is it: Bring a friend, grab your swimsuit and join the Y to celebrate Healthy Kids Day! YMCA Healthy Kids Day is a national initiative to improve the health and well being of kids with the aim of getting kids and families more active and engaged in learning about maintaining healthy habits. This is a free community event.

Price: Free

 

Where/When: on Saturday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m.

What is it: The event features an enriching evening of art, music, wine and light appetizers benefiting local artists and museum exhibits and education programs. This year, the auction will feature more than 45 Northwest artists. All proceeds from Splash! benefit both the individual artists and the Harbor History Museum.

Where/When: on Saturday, April 28 at 6 p.m.

What is it: Help discover the next big star by attending the Fourth Annual Gig Harbor Kiwanis Star Search talent contest at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club. Doors open at 6 p.m. and show starts at 7 p.m. Finalists will perform for an audience and judges. The audience gets to decide the winner. There will be hors d'oeuvres served and no host bar available.

Price: $50


Where/When: Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, 3629 South D St. in Tacoma, on Saturday, April 28 at 9 a.m.

What is it: , and vaccines are the best protection from this dangerous illness. This vaccine is especially important for adults who have contact with babies, as it protects the babies who are too young to be vaccinated. Free vaccines will be given to all children and uninsured or low-income adults.

Where/When: on Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m.

What is it: The class will explore the basics of successful vegetable gardening in the Pacific Northwest - from seed to table. This free series is designed as a basic introduction to the whole endeavor of gardening. Meet in the pavilion and garden space.

Where/When: on Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m.

What is it: Come celebrate trees at Gig Harbor’s annual Arbor Day. The event will feature crafts for kids, awards and performance by the Harbor Heights Orca choir.

Price: Free
