Thanksgiving Roundup: What's Open, What's Closed
Grocery stores and the Galaxy Uptown movie theater will be open, but most other Gig Harbor businesses are closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.

If you need a few last minute items for your Thanksgiving dinner, you're in luck. Grocery stores in Gig Harbor are open at least most of the day. So is the Galaxy Uptown theater, if you're in the mood for a movie after you eat. But most other businesses, banks and government offices are taking the day off.

Grocery stores: The major chains, including , , and , are open but operating on holiday hours on Thursday, Nov. 24. Fred Meyer and Albertson's, for instance, both close at 4 p.m.
Government: All administrative offices are closed on both Thursday and Friday. So are state and Pierce County offices and courts. Federal offices are closed Thursday, but reopen on Friday.

Mail service: The U.S. Postal Service, UPS and Federal Express are closed Thursday. UPS delivery and pick-up service on Friday is limited to air and international items only.
Pierce County Library System: All facilities, including those in and , are closed Thursday and Friday.
Pierce Transit: Operating on Sunday schedules on Thursday, resuming regular service on Friday. Administrative offices are closed both Thursday and Friday.
Banks: Closed Thursday.
Schools: All schools and are closed Thursday and Friday.
Garbage and Recycling: Closed Thursday. All residential and some commercial pickups will be moved back one day.
State liquor stores: Closed Thursday.
: Open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday; 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday.
Restaurants: Most are closed on Thanksgiving. The few that are open, including and at the Inn at Gig Harbor, may already be fully booked. So if you're interested in dining out, call first.
