'The Bachelor' Casting Call to Take Place in Kirkland

Hundreds of potential bachelorettes expected to try out on June 4 for the ABC show.

ABC’s The Bachelor television show will conduct a casting call at Kirkland’s  on June 4 in its never-ending search for “eligible men and women who are ready to find true love!”

Crews from the show will be interviewing potential bachelorettes for the reality show's 16th season at the Carillon Point hotel, and it’s generating a bit of stir in the Seattle area, which has already contributed to the show’s stars.

“We’re really excited about this. It’s creating quite a buzz already,” said Jennifer Metz, marketing director at the Woodmark. “We’ve been talking to KOMO-4 (the local ABC affiliate) and they said to expect 250 or so women. It’s going to be crazy.”

The casting call is primarily for women, as potential contestants on The Bachelor. But William Harris, promotions specialist for KOMO, said men may show up as well.

“We’ll have like two producers from ABC coming and they’ll be asking the questions,” he said. “We’re mainly looking for women, but if men show up, they’re not going to be turned away. We’re looking forward to it.”

Last year, a casting call in Kent discovered the season 15 runner-up, the fetching Chantal O’Brien, who was raised on Mercer Island. The season 13 bachelor was Kirkland resident Jason Mesnick, who famously, or perhaps infamously, discarded his first choice in favor of the runner-up.

Harris said the event at the Woodmark, on June 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be the fourth in the Seattle region. Some 215 potential bachelorettes showed up at a Bellevue casting call, but he noted that the candidates always bring along friends and family to assist.

“In the past, we’ve had people from as far away as Portland, OR, and Vancouver, B.C.,” he said. “Usually, they bring a friend or a sister or a mom. There are a lot of looky-loos, too.”

Metz said the Woodmark and surrounding shops and restaurants at Carillon Point are expecting to be busy.

“Especially if it’s a nice day, the restaurants will be packed,” she said. “We’re talking about doing some room packages. We’ll have a signature cocktail at the , the Final Rose. We’re hoping the businesses here at Carillon Point will have specials, and things like sidewalk sales.”

The casting call is not an audition per se, KOMO’s Harris said, and potential candidates need not dress to the nines or appear in character.

A word to the wise: act naturally.

“There are women who come dressed up like for a photo shoot, and then girls who just got off work,” he said. “They always say just be yourself.”
