Family BoatBuilding Weekend

THE APRIL WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL- SPACES ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR JUNE 7 & 8

OR JULY 12 & 13, AUGUST 23 & 24 OR SEPT. 20 & 21

Wooden boat experts will guide you step-by-step through construction of a 12-foot, 90-pound Salt Bay Skiff. You can row your new boat at GHB on Sunday afternoon, then take it home and paint it. All materials are included in the fee. For more information on the Salt Bay Skiff, come by the shop and look at our boat under construction.

At our Family Boatbuilding event, each team will have access to the necessary tools and advice. Building begins at 9 AM on Saturday. We will strive to have the bottoms attached and sealed by 5 PM. When we resume at 9 AM Sunday, we will install thwarts, quarter-knees, oarlocks, and so on. Your boat will be ready to carry to Gig Harbor Bay between 3 and 5 PM.

For this event, we interpret "family" generously. Each team needs at least one adult, and up to six people can be on a team. Six-year-olds have participated successfully in this event; younger kids might not be entirely safe; and we do use some power tools. (All the basic parts-cutting will be completed before the event by our volunteers.)
