Maritime Pier Legacy Sculpture Project "The Big Catch"

Maritime Pier Legacy Sculpture Project "The Big Catch" Honoring The Legacy & Memories of All Salmon Fishermen presented by the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation.

Yea! The time has come for us all to celebrate the location and construction of a Maritime Pier.

The City of Gig Harbor, its mayors and council members, have searched for over 65 years, in cooperation with local fishermen, to find a suitable location for a drive-on pier that will allow fishermen to bring in their boats, and load and unload their nets to/from their trucks. It is finally happening!

On June 29, 2012, the City of Gig Harbor made the announcement “Maritime Pier - Expect to see work begin on this project in about a month. With the majority of the project being complete this fall.”

Now, it’s time to honor our five generations of fishing families living in Gig Harbor. That is a goal of the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation (GGHF). As a unique community foundation, GGHF exists to actively mobilize visions, build collaboration and partnership, to rally diverse interests and provide an umbrella for charitable giving to support the health and well-being of communities and organizations across the peninsula. The Foundation is a non-profit charitable 501(c) (3) organization working to provide fund development, campaign planning and implementation, and advocacy services to communities, organizations, agencies, and donors.

Bringing the “The Big Catch” legacy sculpture forward for community collaboration in honor of the fishing heritage of Gig Harbor is one way the Foundation – through its Maritime Legacy Committee -- is working to help transport visions to realities that will enrich our community for generations to come. Community donations will fund the Maritime Legacy Sculpture Project, working together; we can all make it happen!

The GGHF needs to raise $180,000 to cover all the expenses incurred in “The Big Catch” sculpture project. We would like to ask for your generous donation to help fund the sculpture project, which will be a gift to the City of Gig Harbor.

We sincerely hope you will join us in this community effort to raise the necessary funds for the Maritime Legacy Sculpture. A plan is underway to have donors’ names on the site. Please respond with your pledge card, which is available on line. Thank you so much for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Maritime Pier Legacy Project Committee
