Scenes From Harbor Hounds

Every year, on one Saturday in September, Gig Harbor goes to the dogs.  This year, it was Saturday, September 14 and boy was it fun!

The Rotary Club of Gig Harbor Midday just completed hosting another fun and spectacular Harbor Hounds Charity Dog Walk.  Hounds and Humans alike gathered in and between Skansie Brothers Park and Eddon Boat Park in Gig Harbor to celebrate our common love for one another.  Dogs and humans of all shapes and sizes participated in a Charity Dog Walk that included two end-point destinations where sponsors set up tables and booths to meet the public, distribute information and share treats and goodies with all the registered dog walkers.

This years’ Harbor Hounds was presented by Chambers Creek Pet Memorial Park at New Tacoma Cemeteries.  The fine folks at Chambers Creek had a booth just across from the Registration tables in Skansie Brothers Park and were glad to meet with and talk to all the registering dog walkers.

The really great looking, bright yellow Harbor Hounds T-shirts were sponsored by Wilco.  Wilco also had a booth in Skansie Brothers Park and displayed many of their Hound-related products.  Every registered dog was also presented with a 2013 Harbor Hound bandanna provided by Kitsap Bank.  Many of the hounds seen walking throughout Gig Harbor on Saturday were sporting these terrific looking bandannas.  All dog walkers also received a wag-bag full of sponsor provided goodies and coupons.  The wag-bags were provided by our friends at Peninsula Pet Lodge.  And the day of fun and excitement concluded with the ever popular Dog Contests, sponsored this year by Safe Harbor Consulting.

All proceeds from the sponsor contributions and registration fees go to support Prison Pet Partnership and the many charities and projects sponsored by the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor Midday.  These include: Backpack Brigade; Courage Classic; Local area High School Scholarships; Sponsored Exchange Students into and out of Gig Harbor; international charities and others.

A huge thank you goes out to all of our sponsors who are listed on our web site (click here).  And, of course, thank you to all of you who invested your time on Saturday to join us on the walk.

If you are a local area merchant that missed out on the opportunity to meet with the many dog lovers from all over the area (we even had a participant in our dog contest from California), you will want to watch out for our call for sponsors for 2014.

Until then, enjoy some of these pictures from Harbor Hounds 2013.  (More photos are available on our Facebook page.)
