Welcome to Insurance 101...

Insurance 101? I know... I probably just lost most of you. For those of you still reading, I hope to use this blog to help you navigate through the complex maze that is insurance. Anyone still here?

Welcome to Insurance 101...

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Joe Urvina, I am a husband, a father, and a small business owner. I was born and raised in the beautiful Puget Sound region. I met my wife in 1998 while going to school, and have been happily married since. We have three beautiful children and love living and working in Gig Harbor.

I currently own the Urvina Insurance Agency in Gig Harbor. One reason I got into insurance is because I really enjoy helping people. My agency allows me to do that everyday by guiding people through the confusing world of insurance.

I say guiding people because insurance can be very complicated. Unfortunately, I have found that most people don't know a lot about insurance... whether it is auto, home, medical or life insurance. Shoot, I didn't know anything really before I entered the industry. I knew that I had to have it, and I hoped that if someone hit me with their car they had it.

In today's market, insurance is getting more difficult to understand. It is harder because a lot of us are choosing to go with direct insurers instead of a local insurance agent. We tend to make decisions on cost and commercials instead of taking the time to understand what coverage our family needs.

I hope to use this blog to unravel the mysterious world of insurance for you. Once a week I will write about an insurance topic and interpret insurance lingo so that everyone can understand it. I am sure that this is a topic that will put most of you to sleep, but I will do my best to make it entertaining too.

If you have a specific question you would like me to address please email me and I will take the time to answer your questions.

Ugh. That's not good, Starla. How many times a week do you and husband cross, or at least try toRead More cross that crosswalk.

I have seen orange flags (like the kind you use on the boat with a water skier) used at crosswalksRead More in Redmond. Perhaps putting a PVC pipe in the ground on either side of the road or attached to the nearby sign posts with a few flags inside for you to hold out/carry to the other side when you're crossing would be helpful?

Brent, we cross it about at least once a week.
