Where is your Fire Extinguisher?

A fire extinguisher can keep a moment of panic from turning into a unfortunate house fire. Do you own one? Do you know how to use it?

A couple weeks ago we talked about what we can do to prepare for an extended power outage. One good comment on the article was to make sure to contact your power company to let them know that your power is out. They won't know you've lost power unless you tell them. Most of us in Gig Harbor are serviced by Peninsula Light Company. Their outage line is (253) 853-1388. I added it to my contacts in my cell phone and recommend you do to.

Today, I want to talk about fire extinguishers.

Last week my son decided to toast some bread on a plastic plate in our toaster oven. Unfortunately, the toast didn't turn out well. The plastic plate melted onto the heating elements and caught fire. My wife was close by and quickly grabbed our fire extinguisher and extinguished the fire. We were lucky that she was there, or a moment of panic could have easily turned into a unfortunate house fire.

Do you have a fire extinguisher? Do you know where it is? Do you know if it is charged? Do you know how to use it? Take a moment and think about it.

I found a really cool site that has several tips about fire extinguishers. Click here to check it out. It gives you tips about the different types of fire extinguishers, how to use them, and how to maintain them. The site does a great job of covering the subject so I am not going to review everything here. But please go look it over.

If you don't have a fire extinguisher I encourage you to get one today. If you do have one, make sure you know where it is and that everyone in the house knows how to use it.

Have you ever had to use a fire extinguisher? Please share any tips you may have in the comment section below.

The bitterness of poor coverage lingers long after the sweet price is forgotten.
