Smartphone App Helping Local Charity

Download WhereURNow to your phone and designate EFN as your charity of choice, and it will receive $2.50.

Here's an easy way to help a local charity: Download an app.

That's it. Simple enough?

Lakewood-based Emergency Food Network (EFN) receives $2.50 every time someone downloads the WhereURNow app on their smartphone and selects it as the charity of their choice.

WhereURNow is a flash site that provides a link between consumers and local retailers  starting with a unique navigation wheel, which provides the user with a quick first step in finding local retailers offering the product or service they are looking for.

Similar to Groupon or Living Social, the site features discounted gift certificates usable at local or national companies. But you don't have to buy anything to help EFN.

In 2011, EFN, which supplies food to 67 food banks, shelters and meal sites across Pierce County, distributed 13.1 million pounds of food worth $16.5 million on a $2.2 million budget. EFN can purchase $12 worth of food for every dollar donated.

That means that every last penny helps.

Download WhereURnow at the Apple App Store, Google Play for Androids or register on its website, www.whereurnow.com.
