PHS Class of '69 Celebrates the Big 6-0

Peninsula Seahawks at 60 (or near 60) gather to celebrate a day without rain.

Saturday, August 6, seemed like a good time to meet in Victor for a picnic to celebrate a year when most Class of 1969 graduates turn 60.  Just a picnic (but a good one), the event led in some cases to meeting classmates I hadn't seen since I was 18.  In other cases, I saw some classmates just two years ago at a regular-phase reunion.

I guess the thing that most impresses me about my classmates is how much they've learned and what diverse lives they've led.  They're all incredibly fun to talk to.  Whether they're in Arkansas, Bellingham or Anchorage, they've always kept up on local Gig Harbor issues and changes.  And they have highly developed opinions about the nature of community life and the issues of the day.  In fact, aside from a few physical issues that plague everyone from time-to-time, they all seemed young as the day we graduated and a whole lot wiser.

So, considering the secondary education we received at Peninsula High School as seniors in 1969, I sure hope this year's upcoming seniors honor their classmates during this year, and remember that they really will value a lot more than football games, diplomas, getting out of this little town, and their immediate clique of friends.

...wait a minute, re-write that fight song.  We're likely better off with that last part deleted!
