She That Came First

She That Came First

The oldest bird of all flies with her eyes closed
for there is nothing in this world she wishes to see
She knows that she is the fairest and most important
of all the creatures ever formed.

She carries this as a certainty and holds her head
haughtily
She has been given many names through
the centuries
In truth, her beauty was legendary
she was highly favored
yet as much as her outer body was artfully formed
her inner being was  ever an empty,  withered shell.

She had found no reason to bother
learning to be gracious as she had
already become artful in Pride
she flew naturally higher than the
other birds, even Wrath would not
follow her, such was her folly.

It did not matter
she cared for no other
company. She judged them all
inferior when set against
her natural superiority

Some called her Vanity and she
gladly wore the moniker as a
jeweled crown on her unbowed head
Knowing that she was justly so.
Before that they hailed her Narcissa
her ebony plumage shimmered
as to make the peacock jealous

However her blindness
is by now complete.
She has no memory of
when last she cast her
gaze on those unworthy of her
beautiful eyes. Because there
was nothing worthy of her sight
she simply gave up seeing.

So prideful was she that she
could no longer open her orbs to the
glory around her or the adoration
that could have been. She was so
set in her hubris and of the grandness
of loves and the highest of statuses
that should be lavished upon her
she would not partake in anything
inferior, which to her was everything
that was not her.

Death keeps his eye on her always
he cannot bear to take her
so enthralled is he in her
glorious madness
She might find him her only
true love, setting aside herself
of course, were she to settled
her attention on him.

A lessor bird would have been lonely
however never she
There was no one created suitable in
all of the Heavens nor Earth deserving of
her company
'twas her self-righteous disposition
that sentenced her to an eternity
alone.
