Tacoma Youth Symphony presents "A Night at the Movies" Costume Concert

You won’t want to miss this opportunity to enjoy a great youth symphony in a not-so-serious setting.

It's that time of year again.  The mornings are chilly and pumpkins are appearing on porches everywhere.  Halloween is almost here and it's time for one of our favorite events of the season.

The Tacoma Youth Symphony, along with Tacoma Young Artists, will present their “A Night at the Movies Costume Concert” at 4pm on Sunday, October 28th at the Urban Grace Church at 902 Market Street in Tacoma.  The members of the symphony wear some really great costumes as they perform music from the soundtrack from several popular movies, like Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Beauty and the Beast, and more.

The audience is invited to wear a costume, too, although it's not required.  There is a costume contest and a raffle of some great donated items.  Last year they sold a selection of snacks and (nonalcoholic) drinks during intermission.  The money raised helps to support the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association Scholarship fund.

The tickets are $11 per person or $40 for a family of four.  Tickets can be obtained by calling (253) 627-2792.

We went last year and had a wonderful time.  It’s light-hearted and fun for everyone, young and old.  By performing movie theme songs, it's a very approachable concert for kids or people who may not enjoy a regular symphony performance.

This is the Tacoma Youth Symphony’s 50th year and your support of this event helps continue the work that they do.  The TYS Touring Orchestra will be performing several concerts in Boston, Massachusetts at the National Festival of the States Concert Series concluding with the premiere concert in the Boston Symphony Hall in May 2013.

You won’t want to miss this opportunity to enjoy a great youth symphony in a not-so-serious setting.

Ugh. That's not good, Starla. How many times a week do you and husband cross, or at least try toRead More cross that crosswalk.

I have seen orange flags (like the kind you use on the boat with a water skier) used at crosswalksRead More in Redmond. Perhaps putting a PVC pipe in the ground on either side of the road or attached to the nearby sign posts with a few flags inside for you to hold out/carry to the other side when you're crossing would be helpful?

Brent, we cross it about at least once a week.
