Fun Concerts Planned for Ride Weekend Aug. 8-10

Michael Franti & Spearhead will return to headline at Obliteride’s second annual kickoff party at Gas Works Park on Friday, Aug. 8, before a crowd of thousands. All registered riders participating in the fundraiser for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center will receive two complimentary tickets to this festive event. The party honors and thanks riders for fundraising and participating in the bike ride on Aug. 9 and 10.
“I’m proud to be playing at the Obliteride party,” said frontman Michael Franti. “It was an incredible night last year and I really enjoyed performing for people so committed to making the world a better place by helping end cancer.”

“We’re thrilled Michael Franti is returning to perform at what we think is the coolest party in Seattle,” said Amy Lavin, Obliteride’s executive director. “His concert at Obliteride last year was magical. He has a unique gift for energizing and connecting with an audience.”
Michael Franti & Spearhead is part of an impressive music lineup for Obliteride weekend Aug. 8-10. Olympia native Ethan Tucker will open for Franti on Friday night. Those riding the two-day Obliteride route will soak up more great music at the University of Puget Sound on Aug. 9 with Canadian folk and rock group The Paperboys.
Obliteride weekend wraps with an exciting music lineup at the finish line party. Three local contestants from NBC’s talent show “The Voice” will perform at Magnuson Park on Sunday, Aug. 10. Stephanie Anne Johnson of Tacoma kicks off the afternoon, followed by Austin Jenckes of Duvall, with a closing performance by season one finalist and Tacoma native Vicci Martinez.
Obliteride offers four ride distances so all levels of riders can make their mark against cancer. The 25-, 50- and 100-mile rides start and finish at Magnuson Park in Seattle on Sunday, Aug. 10. The 150-mile ride starts on Saturday, Aug. 9, in SODO and heads out on the ferry to Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap Peninsula with an overnight at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. All four rides end on Sunday, Aug. 10, at Magnuson Park.
