Letter to the Editor: Gig Harbor Residents Donate More Than Money to Charities

Local resident Ken Roberts writes on the recent article on whether individuals in Gig Harbor donate enough money to charities.

(Editor's note: This email comes from Gig Harbor resident Ken Roberts in response to the article "?".)

I volunteer for the Peninsula Communities of Faith, the Rotary club of Gig Harbor North, the Peninsula Emergency Preparedness Coalition,

the , the Food Backpacks 4 Kids, Peninsula CERT, the Washington State Chaplains Corps, the and many other groups donating time and experience.

I am just one of thousands of local volunteers who each donate many dozen hours a week/month and these contributions to charity are NOT reflected in any report you might get from the IRS.

Churches in the Gig Harbor area donate to food banks (did you know the Key Peninsula Lutheran Church food bank is 2nd largest in Pierce County?) Service groups, like Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus and many others contribute thousands and thousands of dollars each year to help members of our community in need.

Yes! Citizens of Gig Harbor are very generous but any kind of reports from the IRS only scratch at the tip of giving.

No problem. Welcome Brent. By the way, I'm a graphic artist, have any need for ad design?
