On Feb.9, medics were dispatched to a possible hip dislocation. The woman said that she bent over to pick something up, and her left hip popped out causing her to fall. Her husband found her approximately 45 minutes later and called 911. Medics treated and transported her to the hospital.

On Feb. 10, medics were dispatched to a man who was recently discharged from the hospital. His wife said that since he came home, he was not responding to questions and was unable do ordinary tasks.  The medic found that the patient could not answer questions, and he appeared to be in obvious distress. He was transported back to the hospital for further evaluation.

On Feb. 11, medics responded to a man who had a sudden onset of dizziness and right side weakness. Upon arrival, the medic found that the patient was unable to stand without assistance and also had problems with his peripheral vision. The medic transported him to the hospital for a possible stroke.

On Feb. 12, firefighters were dispatched to a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm. The crew found the family outside the home. The homeowner said the alarm was chirping so he changed the batteries, but it continued to chirp. He evacuated the family and called 911. The crew of Engine 56 entered the home and investigated the interior for hazards. The home and garage were scanned with a gas monitor with zero readings. The CO alarm in question was old and rattled when gently shaken. The crew tried new batteries and attempted to reset the unit without success. The homeowner was advised to replace the unit. The Lieutenant also educated the family on the symptoms of CO related illness as a caution and advised the homeowner to call 911 again should any concerns arise.

On Feb. 13, medics were dispatched to a man slumped in a vehicle. The crew found a man sleeping in the driver’s seat. They woke him up and asked if he needed help. He stated that he was intoxicated and was planning on sleeping in his car for the night. Shortly thereafter his girlfriend came out of the grocery store. She said she was planning on walking the two miles home. The crew informed them that sleeping in the car or walking two miles in the cold were bad ideas and that they did not feel comfortable leaving them there. The crew offered to drive both of them home. They gladly accepted the offer, and the crew took them home.

On Feb. 14, medics were dispatched to a man who was having difficulty breathing while going about his normal routine. He said he had to use his inhaler, stop and sit down in order to be able to breathe. Medics treated and transported him to the hospital for further evaluation.
