Fire Blotter: Fire Destroys Pickup Truck, Tractor Sparks Grass Fire

On Aug. 20, a 20-by-10-foot smoldering fire was reported on the near the Olympic Drive entrance. The fire was extinguished and overhauled quickly. The cause is unknown.

On Aug. 21, a truck was rear-ended at a complete stop on Rosedale Street, and the passenger sustained a back injury. Medics transported him to a local hospital for further treatment. 

On Aug. 22, a 79-year-old man discovered a grass fire in his field. After he spent about a half hour attempting to extinguish it with a shovel and garden hose, his neighbors called 911. When crews arrived, the fire was about 100-by-150 feet in size. The cause of the fire appears to have been started from a spark in his tractor.

On Aug. 22, a driveway’s lighting system sparked and ignited beauty bark in the yard of a home on 49th Street Northwest. The power cord was visibly smoldering in the bark but was quickly extinguished. The homeowner agreed to notify a contractor to correct the issue before using the system again.

On Aug. 24, a pickup truck caught on fire in the owner’s driveway during the night, spreading to its cab and nearby home and trailer. It appears the cause was from combustion of oily rags that were stored in the pickup truck. The owner said he had completed some deck staining the day before the incident. Along with the truck, a variety of tools were completely destroyed.

On Aug. 25, a 73-year-old female passenger was treated for hip pain and other injuries from a motor vehicle collision at Rosedale Street NW and Stinson Avenue. The airbags were deployed, and she was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
