Fire Blotter from April 22-28

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One responded to a car accident on Highway 16. Paramedics also assisted a woman who fainted at a local restaurant.

On April 22, a 19-year-old female fainted at a local restaurant. She had been running errands all day and was feeling dehydrated. When she fainted she fell forward and hit a wall face first, then slumped down and landed on the back of her head. Paramedics checked her vital signs and did an examination. Her parents decided to take her to the hospital.

On April 23, firefighters were dispatched to a call for a car off the roadway and down an embankment with multiple rollovers. Because of the large amount of sticker bushes, the firefighters used a 16-foot roof ladder to gain access to the car. After checking the area visually and with a thermal imager camera, no one was found, and the vehicle appeared to be abandoned. The scene was then turned over to the police.

On April 24, paramedics responded to an 88-year-old male complaining of neck pain after a fall. The patient stated that he slipped and fell but did not lose consciousness. He was unable to get up, so he crawled from the living room to the restroom were he has an alert cord. The medic took special precautions to protect any potential back and neck injuries and transported him to the hospital.

On April 25, firefighters were dispatched to a request for a welfare check on a person that had not been heard from for a long time. Upon arrival, the crew found a 60-year-old male lying face down on a carpeted floor next to the bed. The patient had a decreased level of consciousness. Medics treated and transported him to the hospital with no change in his condition. 

On April 26, firefighters responded to a complaint of smoke in a neighborhood. They located a 4-by-4 burn pile consisting of garbage, yard debris and pieces of lumber in a home that was in the “No Burn Zone." They advised the homeowner that it is illegal to burn garbage or lumber and that the home was in a no burn zone. The crew then extinguished the fire.

On April 27, paramedics responded to a 48-year-old male with sudden seizure activity lasting about 3 minutes. There had been no recent history of illness or trauma. Medics treated and transported him to the hospital.

On April 28, firefighters responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a 51-year-old female. She stated that she was traveling eastbound on Highway 16 when she changed lanes to pass a slower driver. However, as she was changing lanes, the car in front of her slowed suddenly, and she swerved around the car, lost control and spun out before hitting the guard rail. She complained of pain in her right forearm, and medics transported her to the hospital.
