Fire Blotter from Feb. 19-25

Paramedics at the Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One assisted a driver after she crashed into an embankment. Firefighters temporarily closed Burnham Drive after a car spun out due to snow on the road.

On Feb. 19, a 66-year-old man called 911 when the cramping in his legs became so bad he was afraid to drive himself to the doctor. Paramedics evaluated the man at the scene and took him to the hospital.

On Feb. 20, a local motorist drove a 68-year-old man to the fire station after he nearly hit other cars when he became dizzy and swerved into on-coming traffic. At the fire station, he refused care and told the paramedics that he was fine.

On Feb. 21, staff at a care facility witnessed a 39-year-old female staff member experience what appeared to be a seizure. They placed her on the floor and provided supportive care while they awaited for help. When the paramedics arrived, the woman was still unable to focus or answer questions. They moved her to the medic unit and transported her to the hospital.

On Feb. 22, the parents of a 6-year-old boy called 911 when their son complained of having pain in the throat and difficulty swallowing. He also had been coughing. Paramedics assessed him and recommended that he be seen at the hospital. The boy and his mother were transported to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital.

On Feb. 23, a 40-year-old woman was negotiating a turn in her SUV when she lost control and ran into an embankment. The car suffered minor damages, and there was no air bag deployment. The woman told paramedics that she had hit the steering wheel hard and wanted to see a doctor at the hospital. Paramedics took the woman to the hospital.

On Feb. 24, firefighters closed the road from North Harborview Drive to Burnham Drive after a vehicle spun out and blocked both lanes. They requested that the road be sanded by City workers and stood by at the intersection until the road sanding was under way.

On Feb. 25, firefighters responded to a possible fuel spill on Highway 16. They found a pickup truck that had pulled over after it lost power. Firefighters found a small fuel leak that was dripping on the exhaust manifold. They advised the driver to have the truck be towed back to the repair shop.
