Fire Blotter from Jan. 29-Feb. 4

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One responded to a fuel spill after a truck jackknifed. Firefighters also assisted a grandmother after she accidentally locked her grandchildren inside her car.

On Jan. 29, a 53-year-old man called 911 after suffering pain in his chest and right arm. Paramedics provided supportive care and monitored his heart during transport to the hospital.

On Jan. 30, an 83-year-old woman told paramedics that she called poison control and 911 after she accidentally took her morning dose instead of her evening dose of medications. She was advised to have a friend stay the night and monitor the effects of the medication through the night. She was also advised to call 911 again if anything changed.

On Jan. 31, a grandmother called 911 when she accidentally locked the car while she was loading her grandchildren, including a 2-year-old, into her car. Firefighters responded to find the children upset and the grandmother trying to find a way into the car. The firefighters found that the drivers door was locked by partially open. They were able to open the car for the woman.

On Feb. 1, paramedics were called to the scene by to evaluate a 36-year-old man who said he had been assaulted. He was found sitting in the bushes nearΒ 5115 Olympic Dr.Β NW. The man complained of head, face and neck pain. Paramedics evaluated the man and decided to take him to the hospital for further care.

On Feb. 2, walkers on the contacted the fire department to investigate a large amount of water flowing from the nearby water tank. They found that the tank was undergoing normal annual maintenance and that there was no problem.

On Feb. 3, a 63-year-old man told paramedics that he was leaning over a railing while he was painting. He said the railing failed, and he fell approximately 8 feet to the ground. He said he hit the concrete wall and was experiencing pain in his right side, ribs, clavicle and back. Paramedics transported him to the hospital for further care.

On Feb. 4, firefighters responded to a report of fuel spilling from the tank of a truck that had jackknifed. Firefighters assisted the driver in collecting the leaking fuel and were able to stop the leak. The Gig Harbor Public Works and the Department of Ecology also assisted in cleaning up the fuel that had spilled onto the ground. Absorbent pads were used to soak up the fuel until the public works crew was able to spread sand over the entire area. The Department of Ecology took over the scene after it arrived.
