Fire Blotter from Jan. 8-14

The Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One responded to the YMCA after a man lost consciousness in the hot tub.

On Jan. 8, a chief officer came across a car that was parked partially off the road in a ditch. No one was injured, but the car was partially in the roadway so thewas called to the scene.

On Jan. 9, paramedics evaluated a woman who said she had been hit in the face by her boyfriend. After being examined, she decided that she did not need further medical care and was left with a deputy sheriff who was interviewing the patient.

On Jan. 10, a homeowner called 911 when both of her carbon monoxide detectors alerted. Firefighters entered the residence with a gas monitor and found a low level of carbon monoxide in the entry area. They found that the woman had been warming her car up in the garage at the time when the alarms began to sound.

On Jan. 11, an 87-year-old man fell in his home and landed on his left shoulder. He told paramedics that he was unable to move his arm due to the pain in his shoulder. Paramedics splinted the arm in a comfortable position and transported the man to the hospital.

On Jan. 12, a 73-year-old man nearly lost consciousness while sitting in a hot tub at the YMCA. The lifeguard pulled him out, and the man regained consciousness by the time paramedics arrived. Paramedics learned that the man had other complications and decided to transport him to the hospital for further care.

On Jan. 13, a roaring sound in the chimney area of his home alerted the homeowner to the fact that he was experiencing a chimney fire. He then put out the fire in his wood stove and called 911. Firefighters were able to put the fire out from the top, but warned the homeowner not to use the wood stove again until the chimney had been inspected by a certified chimney sweep.

On Jan. 14, the Pierce County Sheriff's deputies called paramedics to the scene of an assault. Paramedics treated a small abrasion on the patient's forehead.
