On Dec. 21, medics responded to a 16-month-old who fell and hit his head on the concrete. According to the report, the child was standing up in the back seat of a pick-up, and when the mother opened the door, he fell out. Although he seemed to be acting normally, there was some swelling where he landed on his head. Medics transported him to the Children’s Hospital to make sure he didn’t have a serious head injury.

On Dec. 22, firefighters responded to a house fire. They arrived to find a large two-story home with smoke and flames visible from an attached carport and garage. Several crews were used to extinguish the fire, and they were able to save the home. The fire started in the carport after someone discarded some fireplace ashes in a plastic garbage can which was up against the exterior wall. Upon further investigation, it was noted that the structure had no smoke detectors. The Battalion Chief had a crew install one detector on each floor.

On Dec. 23, medics transported a man who appeared to be intoxicated. His wife called 911 because the patient had fallen twice causing a laceration to his forehead. After a lengthy discussion, the man finally agreed to go to the hospital for further evaluation of his head injury.

On Dec. 24, medics responded to a woman who said that she was moving a glass dish and holding a knife when the dish slid and caused the knife to stab her left wrist. The woman told medics that she saw "quite a bit" of blood come out so she promptly wrapped it with a kitchen towel to control the bleeding until EMS arrived. Her husband arrived shortly after EMS, and the woman stated that she did not want to go to the hospital with EMS but would have her husband take her to Urgent Care.

On Dec. 25, firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle crashed into a pole with wires from 4 poles hanging down. The crew arrived to find the vehicle abandoned, air bags deployed, the front end and windshield damaged and emergency flashers activated. They searched the area for possible patients, finding none. Peninsula Light was called to the scene and all units returned in service.

On Dec. 26, medics responded to a 75-year-old woman who had fallen. The woman appeared to be uninjured, but medics transported her to the hospital upon request.

On Dec. 27, a man called 911 reporting that he heard a thump and found his wife on the floor semi-unconscious. After an examination, medics transported her to the hospital for what appeared to be a first time seizure.
