On May 12, crews responded to a 3-story apartment building when a report of a wall heater malfunctioned and blackened the wall, possibly causing a wall fire. The tenant stated that he smelled smoke and an electrical odor and noticed the heater was blackened with soot. Crews found no extension of fire into the wall after opening up a portion to confirm.

On May 12, the fire department received multiple reports of a homeowner’s shed on fire just 10 feet away from the home. Upon arrival, the fire had extended to nearby trees and threatened the home as neighbors and the homeowner attempted to extinguish with garden hoses. The fire was extinguished with minor damage to the home’s exterior (a broken window and melted molding). The crew checked the home and verified no fire extended. Two heat lamps and a dog containment system connected by an extension cord to the home were the only electrical equipment in the shed, which is believed to have caused the fire.

On May 14, firefighters were initially dispatched to a call of smoke in the area, which had evolved into a beauty bark fire of about 1-by-1 in size. The fire was located in the median at the 5300 block of Olympic Drive. Crews used a water extinguisher and combination tool to put out the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown.
