Fire Destroys Home in Southwest Gig Harbor

A Gig Harbor home was destroyed in a fire Thursday afternoon. The owner of the home and his dog were able to escape safely.

A local man and his dog were able to walk away uninjured after a fire destroyed his home in southwest Gig Harbor Thursday afternoon.

Around 4:30 p.m., was dispatched to a home in the 7400 block of 35th Street NW.

According to officials, the victim's neighbor heard a crackling noise coming from over the fence and saw smoke and flames on the exterior wall of the home and immediately called 911. The neighbor then called her father, who called the owner of the home on his cell phone.

Authorities said when the man returned home, he was able to grab his dog and his computer from the house.

By the time firefighters arrived on scene, flames and smoke were climbing outside wall of the home. Officials said firefighters were able to attack quickly and knock the fire down. They also put out flames that had started to spread to the peak of the structure.

According to officials, the owner was insured, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
