Firefighters Respond to Two House Fires in Gig Harbor

Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One responded to two house fires in Gig Harbor on Thursday. No one was injured in both incidents.

House fire, origin of the fire is still under investigation

A house fire in the 3600 block of 147th Street NW was responded to by firefighters dispatched at 9:10 a.m. Thursday morning when the resident notified 911. The residents evacuated the home without injury.

The first arriving fire crew reported fire through the roof with heavy involvement in the attic area. Due to there being no fire hydrants in the area, a water tender operation was established utilizing two tender trucks from to shuttle water to the scene. The home was fitted with an automatic sprinkler system that aided in the control of the fire allowing firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Altogether, four engines, two tenders, two medic units and several support personnel responded to this fire. 

Pierce County Fire Marshals Office, Deputy Fire Marshal Rod Lasher determined the cause of the fire to be accidental. However, the origin of the fire is still under investigation.

The monetary loss for this fire has not been determined. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. 

House fire determined to be accidental

At 1:33 p.m. Thursday afternoon, firefighters were dispatched to a house fire in the 9600 block of 63rd Street NW. The resident had returned home to find the home heavily charged with smoke and notified 911. The residents evacuated the home without injury. The first arriving fire crews reported heavy smoke from all sides of the home. Due to there being no fire hydrants in the area, a water tender operation was established utilizing three tender trucks from Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One to shuttle water to the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished by the first alarm units. Altogether, five engines, three tenders, three medic units and several support personnel responded to this fire. 

Pierce County Fire Marshals Office, Deputy Fire Marshal Rod Lasher determined the cause of the fire was accidental. The home was a total loss and the total fire loss for this fire was estimated at $568,000. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
