GHPD Now on Facebook, Twitter

The Gig Harbor Police Department has launched a social media outreach program to deliver information to the community in a more timely and efficient manner.

Local residents can now connect with the via Facebook and Twitter. The agency recently launched its social media outreach program to deliver information to its citizens in a more timely and efficient manner.

According to GHPD Sgt. Kelly Busey, this type of communication will allow the department to be better connected with its community and other state and local organizations and agencies.

“The use of social media applications is growing very quickly in the law enforcement community and the feedback received has been quite favorable,” Busey said.

The GHPD Facebook page will be used to disseminate basic contact and departmental information, as well as provide newsworthy information to the public. Meanwhile, its Twitter account (@GigHarborPolice) will feature more short-term information or messages that need to be delivered in a timely manner.

The information posted via these social media platforms will include public safety updates, information on breaking incidents, department news and announcements, road closures, and crime prevention information. You can also help the Gig Harbor Police Department identify suspects from photos posted through these media.

“The social media program that we have launched is just one more way to connect with the community,” said Police Chief Mike Davis. “We recognize the advances in technology and the way people stay in touch. We want to be at the leading edge of this form of interaction with the citizens we serve.”
