Information provided by Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One.

The Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One will be offering free health screenings and safety information at its 27th annual Gig Harbor Health & Safety Expo this Saturday, March 10. Doors open at 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m at .

Through the generous support of local businesses and healthcare providers, Gig Harbor citizens have the opportunity to obtain a wide variety of screening:

Here is an example of some of the screenings offered:

  • anxiety
  • basal metabolic rate
  • blood pressure
  • BMI/body comp
  • bone density
  • clinical breast exams
  • carotid artery ultrasound
  • chiropractic
  • cholesterol/glucose
  • depression
  • foot & ankle
  • grip strength
  • hearing
  • height-weight
  • oral health
  • skin cancer
  • cardiac step test
  • vision
  • Vitamin D

Upon completing the screening that are of interest, there will be health care providers available from Northwest Physicians Network, MultiCare, and Franciscan that can answer questions about results and make recommendations regarding information which they should follow up and talk with their doctor.

All this is available at no cost to Gig Harbor residents. The majority of the screening is provided in-kind, however we do contract with ScreenPointe to handle all of the lab work. They are a local business that specializes in events such as this and have been a part of the Health & Safety Expo since it first began in 1980. Our financial sponsors make this part of the screening possible:

Platinum Sponsors

Gig Harbor Firefighters’ Association

Gig Harbor Firefighters’ Local 3390

Gold Sponsors

MultiCare Gig Harbor Medical Park

Northwest Physicians Network

St. Anthony Hospital & Franciscan Medical Group

Unfortunately, due to budget limitations, this year we are not able to provide the PSA screening, but there are several new screenings: anxiety and depression, basal metabolic rate, foot and ankle, grip strength, and fall assessment.

Other new additions this year:

The Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office is bringing their sprinkler system demonstration trailer and Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services will be here with information about their brand new wellness program. This will be their first public presentation of these new benefits.

Attendance averages 253-500-550. For more information go to:

Ugh. That's not good, Starla. How many times a week do you and husband cross, or at least try toRead More cross that crosswalk.

I have seen orange flags (like the kind you use on the boat with a water skier) used at crosswalksRead More in Redmond. Perhaps putting a PVC pipe in the ground on either side of the road or attached to the nearby sign posts with a few flags inside for you to hold out/carry to the other side when you're crossing would be helpful?

Brent, we cross it about at least once a week.
