Gig Harbor Man Involved In Seven-Car Crash On Interstate 5 Thursday Evening

The 41-year-old Gig Harbor man was not injured, while officials transported a man from Tacoma to Tacoma General Hospital. The accident near 375th in King County backed up traffic for miles.

A Gig Harbor driver was involved in a seven-vehicle pileup Thursday on Interstate 5 that sent one person to the hospital and slowed traffic to a crawl.

The 41-year-old Gig Harbor man was wearing his seat belt when his 2007 Mini Cooper was sandwiched in between cars. He was uninjured in the accident.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the driver of a freight truck was traveling on southbound I-5 near South 375th in King County around 5:16 p.m. and couldn’t stop.

The freight truck hit a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 55-year-old Tacoma man, which caused a chain reaction with six other vehicles, including the one driven by the Gig Harbor man.

The car driven by the Tacoma caught fire, which caused the freight vehicle and a 2008 Toyota to catch fire.

In all, four people were injured in the collision. Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, and the people involved were from Gig Harbor, University Place, Tacoma, Graham, Puyallup and Tenino.

The accident blocked multiple lanes and stretched the line of rush-hour commuters back for miles.
